Situation
The Cloudbreak OPF was inspected for areas of high-risk potential dropped object areas. The area below CV102/105 was identified as an area that possessed high potential for coarse to drop from a significant height that could cause injury to personnel and plant. As a result of this a drive through shedder is required in order to reduce and potentially eliminate the risk.
Solution
Aerison were engaged to:
- Supply structural steelwork for 3 x Shedders
- Erect/construct all 3 Shedders
Outcome
As CV102 & 5 are live operating belts, construction of the shedders was completed on the Eastern side which meant that upon completion of erection the shedders were “towed” to their correct location under the conveyors. Due to the nature of the work and the high-risk activity of towing the structures, there was considerable focus on risk assessments involved with this activity.
The Aerison work crew were vigilant in ensuring the approved construction methodology was adhered to. The supply of the steelwork, fabrication & painting completed by Aerison, was delivered to site in line with the requested schedule and no quality issues were found.
Supply of Steelwork
Supply of the Steelwork (Fabrication & Painting) was completed by Aerison’s workshop facilities and was delivered to site in line with the requested schedule and no quality issues were found.
Construction
HSE:
Due to the nature of the work and the high-risk activity of towing the structures, there was considerable focus on risk assessments involved with this activity. From a high level, the Risk Register (CRAW) was reviewed, and a Task Based Risk Assessment (TBRA) was developed & approved prior to mobilisation. Both documents were reviewed with the workforce prior to commencing work. The TBRA covered both the towing activity & the risk of entering the unprotected area under the live conveyors.
Methodology:
A very detailed methodology was developed and approved prior to mobilisation. The work crew were vigilant in ensuring the methodology was adhered to.
Site Set Up:
Aerison have an area allocated within the site to undertake Prestart meetings etc. Kieran Gordon very experienced in the Aerison prestarts facilitated for each shift which gave the opportunity to coach Thammanoon Herbert (Mac) who is a Step-Up Supervisor.
