Situation
Since the 1970’s the dust collection system at the Parraburdoo iron ore screen house has provided a dust control solution.
Following a recent study, it was determined the condition of the extraction equipment did not meet the current environmental and safety requirements.
Solution
Aerison were engaged as the primary contractor to deliver the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of a new dust management system at the Paraburdoo Process Plant screenhouse.
Scope
- Detailed design of a complete dust collection and disposal system including deconstruction design
- Deconstruction and offsite disposal of existing dust collection system including fans, existing ducting, hoods, dust collectors, structures, electrical infrastructure and dust disposal system; foundations, structural steel, ductwork, fan(s), dust collector(s), dust discharge system
- Supply and installation of temporary dust control equipment during deconstruction and construction of the new dust collection and disposal system
- Installation and commissioning of a new standalone five-cell dust collection baghouse and associated disposal system, including system balancing, airflow verification to design parameters, stack emission verification.
Highlights
- Aerison’s construction methodology provided a modularised fabrication solution including full assembly of structural, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation with heavy-lift placement on-site.
- Baghouse Collectors design capacity: 318,600 m³/hr.
- Three centrifugal extraction fans operating in parallel
- Purpose built skid to house the air compressor assembly
Outcome
- Site-based construction time was less than half the duration expected through conventional methods.
- Dust mitigation in the vicinity was significantly improved reducing respiratory and optometry risks
- Facility performance meets environment requirements
- Improved production efficiency by recovering fines product and reducing material loss
